Chiropractic Care Close to Petersham
For professional and evidence based chiropractic care close to Petersham, I want to invite you to try My Back Relief Clinic.
Hi, my name is Doctor Paula Basilio (Chiropractor) and welcome to my website. I’m your local chiropractor for the Petersham area. I often hear from many of my patients that they are looking for natural solutions to their health challenges, and I’m sure you feel the same way. As you may know, chiropractic care is an all natural and ‘hands on’ approach to addressing a range of health challenges. You may benefit from the work I do and can be rest assured it is without the use of drugs or surgery.
I’ve prepared all the information on this page for you, with the intent of helping you to better understand chiropractic care and how My Back Relief Clinic may help you.
Evidence Based Chiropractic Care
I practice chiropractic care at My Back Relief Clinic using an evidence-based approach. This means that when you come in for your chiropractic check-up, I will be thoroughly assessing you across a range of metrics and will only recommend chiropractic care to you if I think I may help in your care.
Evidence based chiropractic care has been defined by the Chiropractic Board as:
Now if you just read that and are not really sure what it means, that’s ok! Basically, it means that I will:
- Take a thorough history of your initial presenting complaint
- I’ll be looking for subtle changes in your posture and movement which may indicate underlying problems
- I’ll feel for the presence of swelling, tenderness and any abnormal texture or tightness in your muscles
- I’ll integrate any extra appropriate Orthopaedic and Chiropractic tests as needed
- Then, after I have gathered this information, I will let you know if your health situation is a Chiropractic case. If not, I am more than happy to provide you with a referral to an appropriate health provider, in Petersham or surrounds.

Chiropractic Versus Other Treatments for Lower Back Pain – Case Study
I treat a range of health conditions here in clinic. Have a look at the following list to see if you can relate to any of them or if you feel you have a specific issue that needs to be addressed:
So you have a sore lower back and want relief from pain…but what should you do and whom should you see? You are probably on this page because you have heard that chiropractors help with back pain, but is a chiropractor really the best person to help you?
If your back pain can be helped by chiropractic care, it is certainly a good option for you to consider over treatment options such as pain medications and bed rest.
Studies now indicate that taking pain medications, such as paracetamol and nurofen, do little to help with back pain and in fact may lead to addiction or other side effects. An article published in ‘The Conversation’ comments that about 20% of people who see a GP for back pain are prescribed an opioid painkiller. Will this really address your concern?
If you think lying down in bed will help, think again. It is preferable to stay active and move around as bed rest may actually slow down recovery. Education, exercise, stretching and yoga can help. These are complimentary to chiropractic and you often get extra benefit by combining them. I can advise you on the best approach to manage your back pain concern.
Other health concerns I often help patients with include: headache and migraine pain, neck pain, nerve pain, jaw pain, posture problems (this is a pretty broad category), sports injury, joint pain/osteoarthritis (I may try to improve the function of your joints) and back pain experienced when pregnant (I commonly advice pregnant women on their posture and pregnancy specific exercises). I may also advise on options for children (it all depends on the case)
Chiropractic care is more than just the chiropractic adjustment. While a central focus of chiropractic care is the spinal adjustment, it is just one aspect of the work I do. I also offer you expertise in the diagnosis and management of a range of spinal health related problems.
I can teach you about the vast mechanisms of your spine and your body as a whole, and how the various parts all interact and rely upon each other.
